Iranian Ships Harass US Warships In International Waters

Posted by Brodie Kirkpatrick on

On Wednesday, US Naval Forces Central Command confirmed that 11 vessels from Iran's IRGC Navy harassed and almost collided with 6 ships from the US Navy & Coast Guard. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps serves as an armed force separate from the Iranian Army. Its main roles are to protect the nation's Islamic revolutionary  political system and prevent foreign influence in the country. The US ships were conducting joint operations with Army AH-64E Apache helicopters in the area. The US ships involved were the USS Lewis B. Puller, USS Paul Hamilton, USS Firebolt, USS Sirocco, USCGC Wrangell, and the USCGC Maui. The Iranian vessels came within 10 yards of the Maui and 50 yards from the Puller. Multiple radio warnings and acoustic noise makers were engaged to deter the Iranians; but they were ignored until an hour after the incident began when Iranian ships responded and turned away from the engagement. No injuries were recorded during the incident.

Stay safe and have a good one,
